Virtual and in-home currently available. Coming soon – new patients being accepted for in-office appointments in June 2026
Childhood and adolescence can be deeply meaningful and, at times, incredibly challenging. Parents sometimes feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or burned out. They may observe that their children are struggling with frequent outbursts, crying and tearfulness, irritability, refusal, withdrawal, bedtime and sleep problems, avoidance of certain activities or situations, or a range of other behavioral and emotional difficulties. Whether you have a specific concern, your family is navigating a stressful time, or you simply want to better understand your child or teen, you don’t have to do it alone.
My practice is dedicated to working with parents, children, and teens in a way that feels collaborative, respectful, and genuinely supportive. I take the time to get to know your family’s unique strengths, concerns, and goals.
I use evidence-based approaches grounded in psychological science to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs. This means the strategies I use are proven to be effective and are thoughtfully adapted to fit your child's unique personality and your family's values.
Above all, I strive to create a space where both parents and their children feel heard, understood, and empowered. Together, we can build practical tools, strengthen relationships, and support lasting, meaningful change.
I’m glad you’re here.
Jennifer Jansen, Ph.D.
Dr. Jansen started her career providing specialized behavioral intervention with families at the Marcus Autism Center in Atlanta, GA. Her experience working with families led her to pursue her doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Houston. She gained valuable experience applying research-driven practices across a range of community outpatient, hospital, and residential settings for children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Jansen completed her internship and post-doctoral training focused on pediatric and child clinical psychology at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine. Since then, she has been providing psychological services in private practice for more than 5 years.
As a mother of two young boys, Dr. Jansen knows the importance of family and the challenge of parenting through emotional and behavioral challenges. Through the intertwining of both her personal and professional experience, she has developed a genuine dedication to helping families make real progress and build long-term resiliency. She is constantly striving to demonstrate that evidence-based practices actually work, and she will collaboratively set personalized goals and build skills so that your family can see it too. Dr. Jansen also understands the vulnerability that it requires to meet with a provider and seek help, and her goal is to create a comfortable environment to do so. She considers it a privilege to share her experience and work with your family.
Dr. Jansen specializes in the challenges specific to the cognitive, social, and emotional stages of childhood and adolescence. Her training gives her the ability to interpret behavior through a developmental lens, which is critical because children can lack the language to express complex internal struggles. She also has training in pediatric psychology, a separate branch of psychology focused on helping the unique needs of children with medical diagnoses.
As a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Jansen follows guidelines set forth by the American Psychological Association for evidence-based practice. This means that she keeps current with modern research about interventions that are the most effective. Dr. Jansen is trained to take the psychological research and turn it into concrete strategies.
With over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, parents, and adults, she has had the opportunity to navigate a wide range of concerns. As a result, Dr. Jansen has benefitted from long-term monitoring, honing her ability to develop even more insightful and targeted interventions.
Dr. Jansen uses a strengths-based approach to treatment. She actively works to identify existing resources and positive qualities within your child and your family. It helps to visualize what is already going well so that she can build your plan around a strong existing foundation.
Children and adolescents do not exist in isolation. They live, study, grow, and play with family members, teachers, coaches, other caregivers, and community leaders. Therefore, it is important to consider all systems in the approach to treatment. With your written permission, Dr. Jansen often collaborates with school staff, pediatricians, psychiatrists, and other professionals to ensure well-rounded care.
The office location will open in June 2026. It will be located at 2500 E TC Jester Boulevard, Suite 272, Houston, TX 77008.
$300 for a 45-50 minute session.
I am an out-of-network provider, meaning I do not accept insurance. This allows me to offer a more personalized and flexible approach to care, without the constraints often required by insurance companies. However, you can be provided with documentation (sometimes called a “Superbill”) that you can use to request reimbursement from your insurance company, depending on your out-of-network coverage.
I understand that life happens, and you may find yourself with a sick child or some other unexpected scheduling issue. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please call or email at least 24 hours in advance. Otherwise, the full session fee is billed for late cancellations (within 24 hours) or no-shows. This policy allows me to protect the dedicated time for each family and offer appointments to others who may be waiting for care.
The first appointment for children and adolescents is with the parent(s). There are several advantages to having a parent-only session. Parents can share information openly without worry about how their child may react. We also have adequate time to more fully understand concerns, determine goals, and discuss initial impressions. This gives parents a chance to get to know me better and get questions answered before even bringing their child.
Your time is valuable. The interventions I provide are goal-oriented and time-limited because they are designed to be effective and to result in measurable changes. For example, a full “dose” of cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxiety is typically 12-16 sessions, but the exact number may vary depending on specific needs, symptom severity, goals, case complexity, etc. I will work closely with you so that you have a clear understanding of length of treatment and get updates in real-time. I typically aim to meet weekly at first and then move to less frequent appointments as things improve.
